About Dune Lakes
Welcome to Dune Lakes, a peaceful retreat where rich history, natural beauty, and quiet comfort come together on California’s Central Coast.
Originally established in the early 1900s as a private hunting preserve, this land has long been treasured for its unique geography and abundance of wildlife. Tucked between the rolling Nipomo Mesa and the Pacific Ocean, Dune Lakes spans over 1,000 acres of freshwater lakes, sand dunes, and open skies. These lands have welcomed generations of visitors — from early outdoor adventurers to today’s discerning guests seeking serenity and nature.

Over time, Dune Lakes became a favored stopover for thousands of migratory birds. White swans, known for their grace and precision, would arrive like clockwork every year around November 6th. Their arrival was followed by a symphony of activity as flocks of ducks and Canada geese descended on the wetlands, filling the moonlit skies with their cries and wingbeats.
The lakes and marshes provide an ideal habitat — a mix of open water, reeds, and sheltered spaces — attracting an extraordinary range of wildlife.
Over time, the region’s freshwater ecosystems and rolling dunes have supported coyotes, frogs, and countless native species — all part of a balanced and thriving environment.
Today, these same natural rhythms continue. Whether you're here in the stillness of spring or the peak of migration season, you’ll witness the quiet power of nature in motion — a living history unfolding in feathers, footprints, and flight.
Today, Dune Lakes invites you to experience this rich heritage firsthand. Whether you're here for a quiet weekend getaway, birdwatching, or simply to unwind amidst pristine dunes and serene water, you'll find the same magic that captivated visitors nearly a century ago.
Come stay with us — and become part of the living history of Dune Lakes.
